Presentation of the Space Act: A step towards a European space power

Press release

The European Commission presented yesterday afternoon the first regulatory proposal on Space in its history.

Faced with the proliferation of satellites and the increasing risk of collisions and debris, the European Space Act prepares a real leap forward to regain our space sovereignty. It aims to ensure our autonomous capacity for observation and communications, from cybersecurity to climate and research.

Alongside my colleagues from the Sky and Space Intergroup, I will take part in the work of the European Parliament to build and strengthen this future law, focusing on two priorities:

  • Massive support for our historical players, as well as for the ecosystem of SMEs and New Space start-ups, to ensure the emergence and longevity of space champions on our continent.
  • Strict regulation of access to the future European Space market for non-European operators. As with defense, European autonomy depends on its industrial and operational independence.
