Once again, Shein is dodging responsibility!

Press release

Shein continues to ignore institutions, including the European Parliament. So today, I am addressing the European Commission's Internal Market Committee (IMCO).

We don't want any more questions, we want answers:  When will the Commission take appropriate sanctions? I hope, for the safety of our children, that they will be taken before the holidays.

1. Shein Fraud

At the end of October, we were shocked to discover the sale of child pornography and weapons by the Shein platform.

Any European citizen caught committing such a crime on such a scale would sleep in prison.

2. But instead, Shein dodges

Its representatives refused – twice – to appear before a committee of the National Assembly in France.

3. And now Shein is escaping

They refused to appear before us on several occasions.

Do we know of innocent people who refuse to plead their case and despise parliamentary committees?

Tomorrow, I expect that they will deign to appear before the tribunal judiciaire de Paris, while France asks for their suspension.

4. Committee of Inquiry

But they will not be able to escape for long: we are asking for a committee of inquiry to finally shed light on the state of fraud and the application of sanctions.

To date, Shein believes it can get away with it cheaply because the European Commission is looking elsewhere.

5. Ongoing investigations

Since the entry into force of the DSA, we have had 14 investigations opened.

Result: 2 were closed. No sanctions taken.

  • What is the status of the investigation against AliExpress for selling illegal products?
  • What is the status of the investigation against Temu for the sale and promotion of non-compliant products?
  • What is the status of requests for information made to Shein for the sale of dangerous products?

6. Request for sanctions

We don't want any more questions, we want answers:  When will the Commission take appropriate sanctions?

I hope, for the safety of our children, that they will be taken before the holidays.
